The 1865 Pall Mall Gazette from Holborn merged with today's Evening Standard in 1923. Initially fictional in a Thackeray novel, the real paper featured in Wells Time Machine and Sherlock tales. Many famous authors wrote for this journal, a campaigner for social change. Here it reviews letters claiming to be from Jack, first serial killer widely reported in the press.
